Radical change is in store for the styling of Nissan’s EV, which could get a range of up to 340 miles and autonomous tech

The 2018 Nissan Leaf has been spotted with radical styling changes over the current model, akin to the new Nissan Micra.

Through the camouflage cladding, it’s possible to see the new Nissan family face at the front, with Nissan Juke-like V-shaped taillight clusters at the rear. The boot lid also takes a more conventional shape than the current car's, too.

We already know that the new Leaf could have a range of up to 340 miles thanks to battery pack options, the largest of which could double the 30kWh lithium ion pack found in the highest-spec version of the current model.

The current Nissan Leaf in 30kWh form has a claimed range of 155 miles. This could still be offered on the new model as a lower-spec car, as the company takes a Tesla-like approach to EVs, in offering a range of capacities; higher-range cars topping the Leaf lineup.

CEO Carlos Ghosn also confirmed at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that the next Leaf will be offered with Propilot technology, allowing full single-lane autonomy.

Nissan’s chief designer also revealed Nissan’s plan for a second electric model, but stopped short of revealing which body type it would take, instead stating that electric saloon and SUV models were easier to produce than a sports car.

Boring

What, only a boring nose and butt job! What happened to the gorgeous IDS concept Nissan introduced a couple of years ago. I thought the 2018 Leaf would look like that and truly compete with Model 3 on the styling department.

Game Changer

More important than the Model 3. Get the looks right and have a Mid range model for £23,000 (same as the mid Honda Civic) and they won't be able to make enough of them
