New Hyundai is coming

Hyundai is the latest manufacturer to build a Land Rover Freelander rival with its new Tucson, due on sale in autumn next year, following a spring debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

Spurred on by the popularity of its Santa Fe SUV (shown right), with sales up more than a third on last year, Hyundai has created the new model to slot into the range as its entry-level SUV, depicted in this official sketch.

At around £14,000, it will undercut key rivals such as the Toyota RAV-4, Honda CRV and Nissan X-Trail. Expect a generous specification and Hyundai’s five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.

The SUV’s stylish lines have a hint of Kia Sorento and are a welcome change after the less-than-beautiful Santa Fe and Terracan off-roaders.

Expect four-wheel drive only for the UK and an engine range featuring petrol and diesel four-cylinder units plus the 2.7 V6 petrol from the Santa Fe.
