Latest hot Vauxhall to be announced is the 237bhp Zafira VXR

Vauxhall is out to prove that having a family doesn't mean you can't own a performance car. This is the first official image of the power-crazed Zafira VXR, which shares the Astra VXR's 237bhp turbocharged engine is on sale now for October delivery priced at £21,995.

The new car is just £220 more than its 197bhp GSi predecessor, and extends the VXR range to six models alongside the Astra, Monaro, Vectra hatchback and estate and VXR220. Its 2.0-litre turbo unit propels the Zafira from rest to 60mph in 7.2sec and on to 144mph, which Vauxhall claims makes it the UK's fastest MPV, and with 236lb ft of torque it should be up to the job of hauling seven passengers at speed.

There are IDS-plus adaptive dampers to deal with the varying loads of a people carrier, and the big 321mm front discs are clamped by blue-painted calipers. A pronounced bodykit, twin exhausts and 18in alloy wheels (or £500 optional 19s) complete the aggressive look.
