Optional Performance Pack upgrades the four-wheel-drive mega-hatch's brakes, tyres and exhaust

Volkswagen Golf R buyers are now being offered the chance to upgrade the wheels, brakes, and downforce of their car with a new Performance Pack, as well as an Akrapovič titanium exhaust system.

The pack, available with three and five-door hatch models as well as the estate variant, has been developed to enhance the 306bhp Golf R’s track pace and boost consistency. The exhaust is only available on the hatchback.

The brake upgrade reduces the car’s unsprung mass by 2kg, thanks to the use of aluminium holders, and offers stronger bite with pads that are more resilient to heat. Cars with the upgrade get silver calipers bearing the R logo.

The Performance Pack exhaust is a titanium system that has been developed by renowned specialist Akrapovič. It weighs 7kg less than the standard system and is less restrictive to gas flow, creating its own, more racey tone.

The Golf R Performance Pack also adds a rear roof spoiler lip to the hatchback, which provides an additional 20kg of downforce. 

The pack brings no changes to the R’s turbocharged 2.0-litre engine, which produces 280lb ft of torque and is capable of accelerating the four-wheel-drive car from 0-62mph in 5.1sec in manual form and 4.6sec with the optional DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Top speed has been derestricted from 155mph though. It now stands at 166mph for the hatchback, and 168mph for the estate.

Pricing for the Performance Pack stands at £2300, while Volkswagen charges an extra £2975 for the Akrapovič titanium exhaust system. For reference, the Golf R starts from £32,710, and the estate costs from £35,700.

New Collar and Tie.....?!

Making it look a bit more aggressive isn't going to fool anybody,what this Car needs is more power to raise it above the current kings the A45 , Focus RS, just to name two, VW could be the first to brake the 400 bhp barrier, ok, some after market tuners have been there and past it even, but, doing there own GTi  would make the loyal order one that is all VW!

Agree.....

Audi not even braking the 400bhp with the RS3 Facelift. VW had the big fanfare presentation of the Golf R400 2014/15 then istead of staying 2years ahead of the Focus RS and others left in the R&D doing nothing. Will be now 4years late or so when the mk8 appears.

Come on VWR Engineering team have some balls and get it introduced now. Stop letting the others steal the march on you.

Replicate your very well viewed youtube video of the Golf R mk7 v Audi RS3 on the Bedford Aerodrome .

This time Audi RS 3 Facelifted 394bhp v Golf R mk7.5 in DSG Standard form on 19" Rims with DCC. Also against the Performance Pack described in the above article.

Performance Pack & Exhaust Pack .

Part of what is mentioned here has been on the VW Golf R mk7.5 Configurator for the last 2 months to my knowledge. No mention of the speed limiter being enhanced to 165 mph plus, hence the need for improved brakes.. Similar to Golf GTI Clubsport S I guess.
