Minor styling upgrades are planned for Audi's A3 Saloon, which is expected to be revealed in the middle of next year

These are the first spy pictures of the facelifted Audi A3 Saloon, which will go on sale in the UK in the second half of 2016.

Unsurprisingly, the A3 Saloon's minor styling updates are designed to fit in with the fifth-generation Audi A4 saloon, which went on sale in the UK last month. The front end of the updated A3 Saloon features a wider front grille and restyled headlights, while a lightly reprofiled bumper is the only visible change at the rear.

More comprehensive changes are expected inside, with Audi likely to offer its Virtual Cockpit technology on some high-end versions. The Virtual Cockpit is already offered on a number of new-generation Audi models, including the Audi TT, A4 and Audi Q7. Expect minor changes to the fit and finish inside, too.

No major changes are expected for the A3 Saloon's range of engines, but minor improvements in fuel economy and CO2 emissions are likely.

Although so far only this updated A3 Saloon has been spotted testing, a facelift for the full A3 range is planned, meaning updates seen here are likely to be applied to the hatchback and Cabriolet models, too.

The current A3 Saloon went on sale in the UK in 2013, and is priced from £23,585.
