Australian DSG problems have not been replicated in the UK

Volkswagen UK has given further information on why it sees no reason to issue a recall for its seven-speed dual shift DSG gearbox-equipped cars, despite similarly equipped cars in other parts of the world being recalled.

It has also reiterated that it has no examples of the problems experienced in other countries being replicated in the UK.

This week VW, Audi and Skoda issued a recall in Australia and New Zealand for cars fitted with the gearbox, codenamed DQ200, as a result of a fault with its mechatronic system.

That added to recalls already issued in China, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia, and followed 100 complaints from VW owners in Australia relating to an apparent power loss.

UK-built VWs use the same specification DQ200 gearbox as the Australian-built cars, with the units also built in the same factory.

However, a VW statement explained: “The DSG mechatronics are programmed differently according to the country in which a vehicle will be sold. The issues recently experienced by some customers in Australia have not been repeated in the UK, nor indeed in other temperate countries.



“Service campaigns are carried out in countries where an issue is known to exist. 

We have been in touch with VOSA via our usual consumer protection channels and reached a joint agreement that there was no safety issue – VOSA is satisfied that there is no requirement for a recall

.

Latest state of issues with DSG ,

As of the 8th May2014 VAG has issued a notice to dealer to Identify affected vehicles that they service which meet a problem criteria .

When vehicle produced will determine if oil is to be changed at next service intervals.

This notification appears to be not reaching owners whose cars are outside of warranty and chose to their cars serviced by Non -franchised dealerships.

Something wrong with this process, as not capturing all vehicles and therefore this could be a safety hazard .
Meanwhile customers are still experiencing problems.

Advise get to your local VAG dealership and get it sorted NOW!

DSG 7spd

On January 9, 2014 (I live near Stockholm), I ordered a Skoda Rapid Spaceback, equipped with all the goodies, including the panoramic roof. Because my wife insisted on automatic, I obliged. It's a 122hp, 1.4 TSI with the 7spd DSG. The car should arrive in a week or two and from the negatives I've read about the DSG, I'm a bit apprehensive.

Does anyone out there know if the problems with the DSG have been resolved?

Tiguan DSG Loosing power.

Sounds like same problem I'm having with my Tiguan Sport 2.0 tdi, loss of power when cornering just coasts to a halt engine keeps running but no power from gearbox, turning the ignition on and off usually clears it until next time. Hopefully not in the outside lane of a motorway!!! Similar problem if I have to break hard but this time the emissions warning light comes on and same again no power, except it will not reset with the ignition and it has to be returned to the main dealer, for them to shrug their shoulders and read in the latest software update for the DSG. VW does not appear to be taking the safety of there customers seriously. Wake up VW before someone gets killed...
