The person at Renault who decided that pairing the ultimate in modern electric-motoring technology with styling lifted from an illustrious back catalogue of ground-breaking machines deserves a pay rise. Talk about hitting the nail on the head.
One of the most striking examples of that incredible union of modernity and tradition is Renault 4 E-Tech electric, a car that bears a strong resemblance to a model that first saw the light of day in 1961, but which features the sort of cutting-edge safety, efficiency and convenience technology that is an absolute must in the motoring world of today.

In fact, Renault 4 has some truly interesting bits of tech. For starters, you can activate Face ID, so Renault 4 recognises who hops into the driver’s seat, and automatically applies their preferences, like radio stations, Google account and their preferred driver assistance settings – perfect for those who share their car. There are neat features that make driving easier too, such as hands-free parking, and up to 28 advanced driver assistance systems1. But perhaps Renault 4’s best trump card is the very clever Google2 built-in system…

The joy of Google built-in
Every single Renault 4 features the class-leading OpenR Link infotainment system, and all but the entry-level evolution+ trim come with Google built-in2. Now, while many manufacturers offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay – Renault 4 does that too – Google built-in is a bit different. For starters, you don’t need your phone to use it. As the name suggests, Google is properly baked into Renault 4.
The other advantage of Google being properly integrated with Renault 4 is that it can simply do more. When you navigate with Google Maps, the software knows exactly how much range you have and how much you’ll have left when you arrive, so if you need to stop for a quick charge en route, Google Maps will automatically add a charging stop to your journey. What’s more, it’ll even precondition the battery for optimal charging speeds.
