Early version of the new Audi Q2 gets extra standard equipment and special styling details

The Audi Q2 Edition #1 will go on sale in September priced from £31,170, which is £10,940 more than the Q2's soon to arrive entry model.

The top-spec Edition #1 adds extra standard kit and a raft of special design features to Audi’s new compact SUV.

Its exterior is based on that of the top of the range S line, which comes with sports bumpers and a rear diffuser, but the Edition #1 also gets Manhattan grey lower sections, a black ‘blade’ C-pillar, black mirror covers and a quantum grey paint job.

The car also gets a titanium black grille surround and bumper accents, along with standard LED headlights and a set of 19in five-spoke alloy wheels.

Inside, the Edition #1 has standard-fit sports seats, a leather-wrapped sports steering wheel and accompanying leather interior package. There are also aluminium door sills, a titanium grey headlining and an ambient light package.

Like the rest of the range, just two engines are available with the Edition #1 at launch: a 1.4-litre TFSI with 148bhp, a 1.6-litre TDI with 114bhp. As standard, the car comes with a six-speed manual gearbox, but the TFSI petrol engine is also offered with an S tronic automatic.

Audi downsizes its Q-badged SUV line-up by one more notch, but can the Q2 drive inspire buyers to forgo the Seat Ateca and Mini Countryman?

Later on, the rest of the Q2’s engine options will join the Edition #1 line-up, including a 1.0-litre TFSI unit that produces 113bhp and has cylinder-on-demand technology, a 2.0-litre TDI diesel, which produces 148bhp and, from mid-2017, a 187bhp 2.0-litre TFSI petrol.

Order books for the Edition #1 open in September, with the model available for a limited period only.

Black "Blade"

At least the gloss black "Blade" improves the worst aspect of this design IMHO, the clumsy C-pillar treatment. I wonder if you can get it as an option on lesser models?

Black "Blade"

Took a look at the Audi UK configurator; apparently not. Shame, as it transforms the look of the car from dumpy to quite smart. An opportunity for an enterprising aftermarket supplier?

Looks like a jacked up Polo, esp from rear three quarters. Audi's so-called stylists should win 1st place for this year's "can't be bothered to create something original award."
