The design theme of the next-generation Nissan Micra will be changed as Nissan reacts to the low impact made by the current global model in Europe.
“We are adjusting the Micra for the next model; we were drifting, and now we’ll counter-steer,” said design boss Shiro Nakamura.
“Excitement, substance and agility” will feature in the design of future Nissans, he added. These qualities will be combined with the above-average roominess of today’s models, a task that Nakamura admits will be “challenging”.
However, Nakamura believes that the Nissan Qashqai and the Nissan Juke show the way ahead.
“They are already sporty and have a nice stance,” he said. “Over the next few years, Nissans will have a more consistent look.”
But Nakamura also admitted that Nissan’s diversified range, from the Micra to the Titan pick-up truck, “is in some ways a strength, but also a challenge”.
